Bp Ceo Tony Hayward Steps Down – After receiving a large amount of criticism both from citizens and from the government, the BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg announced that CEO Tony Hayward would no longer manage the day to day operations regarding the oil spill and Gulf cleanup effort. It was clear that a move had to be made as Hayward was getting blasted by the US and Britain .In a recent interview, Svanberg said that the responsibility of the project will be handed over to Bob Dudley. Bob Dudley has worked as the managing director of the company for quite some time, and is highly regarded by his peers.
It will make for a gigantic change is strategy for BP. Hayward, who had been the company’s public face in interviews had not done enough to ramify the situation and help to ensure that it was being dealt with as quickly as possible. In fact, speculation that he was lying about his figures, stats and estimates have run rampant since his first interview.
“This has now turned into a reputation matter, a financial squeeze for BP and a political matter and that is why you will now see more of me,” Mr Svanberg said.
As oil continues to leak into the Gulf of Mexico, the company will continue to come under fire from both Democrats and Republicans, as they try to not only stop the leak, but assist with the clean up effort that could take years to make any significant progress on.
