NBA Finals 2010 Celtics–Lakers:Lakers Win NBA Championship – It’s a match up that we are used to seeing in the NBA Finals. The Boston Celtics facing off against the Los Angeles Lakers. Like it has so many times before, this time it will be coming down to the seventh and final game of the series to determine who the NBA champions are. Both Larry Bird and Magic Johnson played each other three times consecutively in the 1980′s, and the Celtics and Lakers had met to that previously in the 1970′s as well. David Stern has said that this match up seemed to be a regularity when he took the position of NBA commissioner, and he seemed happy to be revisiting the old days, with the second time we have seen this match up in the finals in the last three years.
This will be another notch on the belt for both teams. Two years ago, Boston was able to secure a victory in the finals over the Lakers. Last year, the Lakers were able to beat the Orlando Magic in surprising fashion. The Celtics did not make the finals last year, but were able to secure their position this year against the Lakers.
The Lakers had jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the series, before Boston came back to win the next two games, placing them ahead at 3-2, in a position to clinch the title. The Los Angeles Lakers won the last game, placing the series at 3-3, with both teams hoping for the title.
A number of players were injured recently, including Celtics starter Perkins, who tore ligaments in his right knee and will not be able to start tonight. In his place, Scalabrine will start. He has not seen much action throughout the playoffs and now will have his chance to shine as his team goes for the title.
Update:
Los Angeles Lakers won their 16th NBA Championship against the Boston Celtics 83-79 with Kobe Bryant taking home the MVP trophy.
