World Ugliest Dog Ellie Dies At 17 – The dog that had previously held the title as “World’s ugliest dog,” named Miss Ellie died today. The pet was a bug eyed Chinese hairless pooch. She was 17 years old when he finally passed away. She was, by all accounts, a fairly nice dog but that the fact that she was hairless and had her lopsided tongue always hanging out the side of her mouth was unnerving to some who looked at her. She died inside of her Tennessee home, according to reports.
The dog was rescued by her owner when she was only 7 years old. The dog’s name was Miss Ellie. The dog was able to help her owners raise nearly $100,000 for the local Humane Society in the region.
In her final years, the dog was almost completely blind, but was still able to reclaim the “World’s Ugliest Dog” award last year.
Miss Ellie also played a part in Animal Planet’s “Dog 101.” She was featured on a number of commercials and television programs, and had been ready to travel to California later in the month so that she could defend her title as the reigning champ.
Her owner, Dawn Goehring, had trained the dog and taught it to perform in a comedy show that she hosts at the Comedy Barn in Pigeon Forge. She said that she is now planning on raising money in order to open up a new animal shelter, in remembrance of the World’s Ugliest Dog.
