Jason Taylor New York Jets Deal – In previous seasons Jason Taylor hasn’t exactly been on the best terms with the New York Jets or their fan base. However, Taylor recently agreed to a contract with the New York Jets on Tuesday. The move will likely bolster the league’s number one rated defense from last season. Rex Ryan, the coach of the New York Jets, is known for being an defensively minded coach that has crafted several winning defensive squads both in New York and in Baltimore, where he was the defensive coordinator for the Ravens.
The deal, which is reportedly for two seasons and can pay Taylor as much as $3.5 million depending on performance, will likely have the renowned pass rusher focusing on rushing the passer. This will allow Taylor to focus on his strengths. Previous seasons have seen the 35 year old defensive end suffer injury problems that likely have diminished his playing ability. However, Taylor’s strong ability for rushing the quarterback will add a pass rush that the Jets desperately need. They only saw 10 sacks between their two defensive ends last season. Taylor will likely add to, if not double that number.
Taylor first visited the Jets nearly two weeks ago, but did not sign a deal. Taylor then waited to see if Miami would re-sign him after the upcoming NFL draft. When Miami did not show enough interest in Taylor, he started to look more heavily at the New York Jets. Taylor was the 2006 Defensive Play of the Year and currently has 127 1/2 career sacks, putting him toward the top of the leader boards. He will likely benefit from Rex Ryan’s aggressive 3-4 scheme, which will allow Taylor to do what he has done best throughout his career, rush the quarterback.
