Michael Gilchrist To Kentucky – Michael Gilchrist, a young man who many consider to be the top player in the class of 2011 has given a verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky. He has been heavily targeted by schools across the nation. Some other schools that have been trying to lure the young player to their program include Oregon and Villanova. While those programs would like to have the young man, they can be happy that he came to a decision quickly so they can target other players more seriously.
Gilchrist was able to lead his team to the New Jersey state title last season. He was also named the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year as a sophomore. Gilchrist is tall, thin and strong. He is able to take the outside shot or drive to the hoop for the hard lay in at a moments notice. Some experts have compared Gilchrist to players like Tracy McGrady and Kevin Durant, because of his frame and unique skillset.
He stands 6 foot 7, and just under 200 pounds. He will likely have to bulk up a bit before he plays int he NBA if he would like to remain competitive. Many recruiting experts have said that Gilchrist is the #1 prospect set to come out of the 2011 class. Gilchrist has been close with John Calipari, and his decision to go to Kentucky seems to make a lot of sense for the young talented player. Gilchrist has impressed scouts with his maturity and his skills on the court alike. He is a rare combo in a sport that has seen an increasing number of incidents in recent years.
