Obama New Peace Plan Middle East?

April 9, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Obama New Peace Plan Middle East – President Barack Obama is reportedly “heavily considering” a plan of peace that would end the Palestinian conflict, according to two officials in Obama’s administration. The peace plan is supposedly similar to a deal that was almost reached at Camp David in 2000. Further negotiations would follow, but the peace plan was never able to gain full support and eventually was scrapped. The deal would reportedly change the map slightly, but according to one senior official “90 percent of the map would look the same.” While changing the way the land in the area is divided certainly will be a stepping stone, it is not expected to begin fixing the issue entirely.

This peace plan would reportedly be intertwined with confronting Iran. The ultimate goal of the talks would be to get the whole region involved, and listen to each country’s input on the situation. Those countries would include Syria and Jordan alongside the Palestinians and Israelis. The White House is reportedly going to be shopping the idea around to several different agencies in order to gauge the political consensus. It is reported that the accurately dubbed “Middle East Initiative” could be launching by next fall.
There will certainly be hurdles in any negotiation, and with our military already stretched incredibly thin it is certain that the Obama administration would prefer not to rock the boat too much, but it has become clear that a plan needs to be devised in order to help gain control of the situation. Colin Powell and Sandy Berger, who both served as national security advisers have also expressed their desire to find a new approach to confronting the problems presented by the region. Obama’s sudden embrace of a new peace plan for the Palestinians and Israelis differs slightly from his stance during his campaign for President, where he stated that he would try to coax concessions from both sides.
