Iran Slams Obama “Cowboy” Nuclear Strategy

Iran Slams Obama “Cowboy” Nuclear Strategy – The President of Iran ridiculed Obama’s recent nuclear strategy proposal which shifted the focus on potential nuclear threats away from our cold war foes and onto rogue states and terrorist organizations. Obama announced the new strategy on Tuesday, and iterated that nations without nuclear weapons would never be targeted by a nuclear attack. Missing from the President’s pledge were both Iran and North Korea. Recent tensions between these countries over their inability to agree and cooperate with the international community on nonproliferation standards have added fuel to an already burning fire.

The Defense Secretary of the United States, Robert Gates, spoke briefly about how the focus must shift from watching county’s that already possess nuclear capabilities and take a look at our current threats and assess what their ambitions may be. The new strategy will reportedly add quite a bit of extra pressure to Iran, in an attempt to get them to back down from developing their nuclear program.

The recent proposal has shown that the United States is willing to cut down on their arsenal of nuclear weapons if other countries are willing to do the same. Washington is looking to put safeguards into place against nuclear proliferation. The President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told crowds on Tuesday that Obama was an ineffective leader, and that he had caved under pressure from Israel to target Iran more heavily.
He went on to say that Obama is “under the pressure of capitalists and the Zionists,” and assured the crowd that he would not be pushed around or back down. The country has long been suspected of attempting to develop nuclear weapons, even after repeated requests to stop and comply with current safeguards set by several different world organizations including the United Nations.
