Elian Gonzalez Today In Cuba – He’s now 16 years old and he was spotted attending a Cuba youth meeting. Cuba just released the photos of the once celebrity but exiled back to Cuba Elian Gonzalez. He is wearing a green military school uniform and is at the Young Communist Union congress. Elian Gonzalez is 16 years old now and has short black hair and is shown very adequately attending a youth celebration for those that are involved in the communist union. It took place in the western Havana and the images were released on Monday by the Cuban government on one of their websites.
It has since been widely distributed across the internet.
Elian Gonzalez was just 5 years old when he was discovered floating on the water just off the coast of Florida in an inner tube that his mother and other relatives had been floating on and had drowned trying to reach the United States to be free from Cuba. Elian’s father stayed in Cuba despite having the whole family wanting to get away. U.S. Immigration officers had to rule that the boy be sent back to Cuba because of regulations. His relatives in Miami wanted the boy to stay but the Cuban government was persistent in making sure he returned. It created a nationally recognized dilemma and even the Presidents George W. Bush and Al Gore had to address the mater. The boy was returned to his father in Cuba since there wasn’t much we could do her in America, our hands were tied. Elian Gonzalez appears to be doing well, as far as we can tell from the pictures that have been released.
