Buddhism Tiger Woods – Buddhism is most commonly known as a religion but also represents the philosophies and traditions, beliefs, and practices that are mostly based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama who is more commonly known as Buddha. Some Buddhist refer to Buddha as “the awakened one.” Buddhism is classified as an Indian religion because of where it originated. The Buddha people mostly lived in the northeastern Indian area and Buddhism originated between the 6th and 4th centuries BCE. Buddha is known as the awakened teacher who helped educate and heal humans from suffering. He achieved nirvana and escaped what is known as the cycle of suffering and rebirth.
There are two types of Buddhism that are known as Theravada (The School of the Elders) and Mahayana (The Great Vehicle). Theravada is the oldest of the two and is most commonly practiced in Southeast Asia. Mahayana is found mostly in the East Asian cultures and has many traditions and customs incorporated into its religious philosophies. Vajrayana is a subcategory of Mahayana and is sometimes recognized as a third type of Buddhism. More commonly it is just the two and Vajrayana is more a subcategory because it shares most of the beliefs and practices of Mahayana. Buddhism is most popular among religions in Asia but it is important to remember that it can be found all over the world. There are sources that say there could be as many as 500 million people in the world who practice Buddhism. That would make Buddhism the fourth largest religion in the entire world.
There are many Buddhist schools throughout the world as well where you learn the nature and path to liberation and the importance of the physical goods that are found within the Buddhism religion. The foundation of these goods revolve around three jewels known as the Dharma, Buddha, and Sangha.
