Wyclef Jean has been at the center of controversy ever since the earthquake in Haiti over a month ago. At first, it was said that Jean paid himself too much to perform at several benefit concerts (it was reported that he was paid in the 6 figure range for performing just three songs). Jean was interviewed several times and said that the figures that were exposed to the public were not true and he did not earn nearly as much as was claimed that he did. Now, Jean is involved in another scandal regarding funds that have been donated to his “Yele” foundation, funds that are supposed to be going to the relief efforts in Haiti, Jean’s home country.
It is reported that Jean has been using the funds to pay a mistress a six figure salary for working for the company. The money was claimed to have been paid to the women in 2008, when her and Wyclef were involved with one another. The inside source says that Wyclef gave her the position in an effort to pay her for keeping their arrangement and relationship quiet. The individual also claims that Wyclef used funds from his Haiti charity, “Yele”, in order to give her this position.
It has been speculated on several different occasions that Wyclef Jean was being less than honest about where the funds from his foundation were heading. He has denied claims that he was misusing funds on several occasions, but has not publicly responded to the latest claims. The woman who reportedly received the misused funds has also declined to comment on the matter, even after being questioned by several reporters. It is expected that Wyclef Jean will make a statement about this in the new future, in an effort to clear the situation up.
