The race to fill the vacancy in the California Governor’s office has been eating up in recent days. Jerry Brown, the former Governor who is looking to reclaim his seat is the presumed democratic nominee in the race. However, the lead that he had over Megan Whitman has disappeared according to recent polls. It is unclear why the race may be tightening in the traditionally democratic state. After the debate for the republican ticket was held on television just the other day, many experts said that they felt that there was some uncertainty about who the republican candidate would be. Today, it is clear that Meg Whitman is that choice as she tries to dethrone the former Governor of California.
Whitman has seen her numbers increase by nearly five percent in some polls after just an additional day of campaigning. This does not bode well for Jerry Brown, who has kicked his campaigning into high gear and plans to travel the entirety of the state campaigning over the course of the coming days. It is unclear at this point who owns the advantage in the race, and many have speculated that Jerry Brown could attempt to enlist the help of some of the larger names from the democratic party.
Whitman is not favored among democrats, not surprisingly. This is where Brown holds a 3 to 1 lead over Whitman, and Brown is rumored to be focusing on the democratic base for the upcoming campaigning that he plans to do. Whitman, however, according to recent polls has scored much better with middle aged and older voters. This comes as no surprise since these are two demographics that are commonly held by the republican party during the election season. It is unclear at this point who may help Brown campaign, but some sources have linked Brown to the Clintons for campaign help.
