Americans Killed At Ciudad Juarez Consulate

March 20, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

The Mexican drug war has been worsening for quite some time. In the last year there have been multiple outbursts of violence related to mobs and gangs that are located inside of Mexico that control the Mexican drug trade. The killing of three separate individuals who were involved with the US Consulate have raised concerns, and have forced the Mexican government to deal with the American government, who has been pressuring them to step up their forces against the drug war for quite some time. A woman who worked at the consulate was killed with her husband, both of whom lives just over the border in the United States, as they left a children’s birthday party. Another man who was married to another employee of the consulate was killed around the same time at the opposite end of the city after leaving the same child’s birthday party. It is believed that the too murders were connected to one another, and were also connected in some way to the Mexican drug war.
Both Mexican and American authorities have been working together to investigate all of the murders. For quite some time the US has been urging Mexico to put a stop to the drug war and the gangs that were responsible for bringing drugs over the border into the United States. Several border cities, including Cuidad Juarez, the city where the American workers were killed, have been targeted by these gangs in order to help them control the drug trade and help get their drugs across the borders. Many of these cities have been deemed unsafe for American’s to visit and it is unclear what action, if any will be taken against the gangs after these most recent killings, the first killings that involved Americans that have been linked to the Mexican Drug Trade in many months.
